Donate a Blood or Skin Sample to the Biobank for Research
The NIGMS Human Genetic Cell Repository at Coriell Institute for Medical Research is now accepting CYFIP2 biological donations for research. All donations, either blood or skin cells are created into cell lines and made available to researchers worldwide.
This is a free program for families to contribute to research and is not limited to families and researchers in the United States.
Some examples of how donating to the Biorepository can help research towards a treatment:
-A researcher can request a cell line to conduct high throughput screens identifying more potential therapeutic compounds
.-OR donated cell lines with CYFIP2 variations that have not been previously studied or are newly discovered can offer new insights to researchers.
Here’s how it works:
1. Read through the Family Portal (link below!)
Click here to access the Donor Portal Home
2. Email NIMGS@coriell.org.
Include the following information in your email:
- Contact information to receive the kit (mailing address and phone number)
- Diagnosis of affected individual
- Donor(s') information
- Number of donors (the affected individual and any family members donating as well)
- Sample type that each individual would like to donate (blood and/or skin biopsy)
- Name and age of donor(s)
- An upcoming appointment date where the blood draw/skin biopsy can be conducted. Collection kit will be mailed to you within two weeks of your appointment due to perishable components in the kit.
3. Receive your collection kit in the mail. Take the kit to your doctor’s office for a blood collection or skin biopsy. Mail the kit to the Biorepository using the provided shipping label. Be sure to fill out and include all paperwork with the sample collection.
4. Once CYFIP2 donations are received at the Biorepository, the cell lines will be listed in the catalog for researchers.
